National Team Softball Countdown for World Championships in Canada

There are just 80 days remaining before the Swiss Softball National Team will take the field at the World Championships in Surrey, Canada.  A record-setting 31 nations will be competing for the world title. Switzerland is among 11 countries who making their world championships debut.

The Swiss National Team will be in the first round of pool play together with top-ranked Australia, Mexico and Serbia. The schedule of games is not yet set.

The Team is busy preparing for the big competition they will face. On Sunday, April 17, under less than ideal weather conditions, the team played an inter-squad scrimmage.  The goal of the day was to assess players in different positions and to choose a starting line-up for the next contest. The team will travel to Attnang-Puchheim, Austria over Pentecost to play in the Finkstonball tournament.

Preparatory practices are scheduled throughout May, June, and July. A double-header against the Dornbirn Sharx is scheduled for June 19, at 13:00 and 15:30. Flyers player/coach, Meli Wanner (former national team player) is also helping to organize a game in Therwil between the National Team and the Import Players end of June/beginning July.

The team will travel to Surrey, Canada on July 13, to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent their country on the world stage.
