A positive, full of good experiences, tournament has meanwhile found an end. Certainly the impeccable organization and some luck with weather conditions had their share in a positive and full of experience loaded week.
The qualification round being played the first two days, as expected, were (for the moment) still too big a challenge for our young team. Spain 14-4, Croatia 11-4, France 9-3 as well as the defending champion and host Italy were simply stronger.
After a day off (team visiting the city of Milan), Wednesday was the beginning of the 2nd (and for the team really important) placement round of the championships.
Another 6 games in only 3 days resulted in the following, very positive scores:
Lithuania Win 11-0 in 4 Innings
Hungary Win 9-1 in 6 Innings
Slovakia Loss 5-0 in 7 Innings
Denmark Win 13-7 in 7 Innings
Israel Win 7-0 (forfait, too many too young players on the Israeli Team)
Bulgaria Win 3-1 in 7 Innings
The final result was a good, not really expected, 18th place (out of 23 teams).
Head Coach Steph Gosselin with very good support of her team with Julia Gloukhoff, Pam Mottl, Tatiana Pedrotta and Sue Fischer had an important share in a positive week for the young team. 10 games in only 6 days were a real challenge for the only 14, mostly young players! We feel, there is a good future for this young, hardworking team.
Thanks to all fans who supported us really well throughout the tournament.
A final and big thank you goes to Marc Fischer how kept the fans over social media and live streaming in the loop. This was important and helped to make it a positive experience for the Swiss Softball National Team.
