Preview Softball Fastpitch Season 2016

As last year, the Softball Season starts with „Juniors Days“. These will take place on 3rd, 10th and 16th April. All of us hope, that many young girls will take this opportunity to find out more about our great and thrilling sport. Many of them will hopefully stay with Softball in future also.

Season Opening for the Championship will be on 23rd April. For the Swiss Championships Softball Fastball 2016 six teams definitely enrolled.

Coach of the 2016 Zurich BARRACUDAS will again be Sue Fischer. This summer two American Players will join the team, they will support Sue Fischer in coaching as well.

Berne CARDINALS have nominated a new coach with Ernesto Pereira. He will be active in other teams in the Organization as well. In his absence, Kirstin Wolff will take over in the Team.

Zurich CHALLENGERS will as well participate in the Championship. Further Details about coaching and/or Players are not yet known or published.

Wil Devils will start the season with Denise Maier as a Team Manager. Denise, together with Jrene Bühler and Nadja Lehmann will as well manage and lead the training units. The Team starts the season with nine really young players. Focus therefore will mainly be on their Integration in the Team.

An American player has been engaged as a coach, she has some years of experience and will as well help out on the catcher spot.

Lucerne EAGLES, the defending champion, will again be coached by Julia Gloukhoff. This year again, two American players will be signed. Further details however, are not yet known

Melanie Wanner will coach the Therwil FLYERS for a further season, for the first time assisted by Bettina Burri. Two American players, Makenna Weir and Samantha Jimenez have been signed. Makenna will fill in as a catcher and infielder, Samantha will be pitching.

Lucerne Eagles, Swiss Champion 2015, will represent Switzerland at the ESF European Premier Cup from the 15th to the 20th August 2016 in Ronchi/Italy. The Vice Champion 2015, the Therwil Flyers will play at the ESF European Cup Winner’s Cup in Ostrava/Czech Republic the same week.

A big highlight this season however will be the participation of a Swiss National Team Softball Fastpitch at the WBSC XV Women’s World Softball Championship in Surrey, Canada taking place between the 15th and the 24th of July this year, the team will be coached by Kathy Coyle.
